Data Monday: Mobile Gaming

At its current rate of growth mobile (phone & tablet) gaming will overtake the amount of gameplay currently happening on game consoles. Here's a look at the numbers:

  • Games continue to be the most popular smartphone app category. (source)
  • 93% of app downloaders are willing to pay for the games they play. In contrast, 76% of downloaders are willing to pay for news apps. (source)
  • The average mobile gamer plays an average of 7.8 hours a month. (source)
  • Those with iPhones tend to play around 14.7 hours each month while those with Android smartphones play around 9.3 hours per month.(source)
  • Apple's iOS is the most popular gaming platform on the planet. There are more than 100,000 game and entertainment titles in the App Store. (source)
  • In just 9 months Apple has over 50 million Game Center users. To put that into perspective Xbox Live has been around for about eight years and they have around 30 million users. (source)
