Data Monday: iPad Sales & Use

The iPad, Apple's latest attempt to reinvent personal computing, has been available for just over two weeks. Here's some recent data about how it has been received.

  • Apple delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week. (source)
  • Apple sold more 300,000 iPad units on first day itself. (source)
  • In its first 10 days, Apple's iPad has captured almost as much online usage share (3 out of every 10,000 online devices) as the BlackBerry or Google's Android operating system. (source)
  • In the first week, more than 3.5 million iPad apps were downloaded, including 1 million on the first day. (source)
  • In the first week, there were 3,500 apps in the AppStore just for the iPad. (source)
  • In the 10 days since the iPad’s debut, ABC's TV-show watching app has been downloaded 205,000 times. Moreover, users have watched at least part of 650,000 television episodes using the app, generating “several million” ad impressions. (source)
  • 600,000 electronic books had been downloaded from Apple’s new iBookstore on the iPad (source)
  • A survey of 15 Apple retail stores conducted this week by investment bank J.P. Morgan found that while 11 stores had the 64 model available for purchase, only 4 stores had stock of 16GB and only another 4 had the 32GB model. (source)
