Design
Completed: January 2001
Silver Wrapper Productions is a music production company based in Chicago,
IL. They promote and organize numerous jazz, funk, and dance music shows
in the Chicago metro area. The main goals of Silver Wrapper's web presence
are to promote upcoming shows, and to maintain an ongoing relationship
with their patrons. The audience is encouraged to continually revisit
the site to download music, photos, videos and more from Silver Wrapper
shows they have previously attended. By providing multiple digital (audio,
visual) memories of shows for their fans, Silver Wrapper, lets their
patrons relive past experiences, and keeps them looking forward to new
ones.
LukeW solution:
The style of the web presence needed to communicate what made the Silver
Wrapper experience unique for its audience. Abstract shapes, rather
than photographs, were used to emphasize the qualities common the all
Silver Wrapper shows. Motion lines emphasize the excitement of dance-orientated
music, multiple spheres refer to the complexity behind intricate jazz
compositions, and typefaces associated with "funk" music tie
it all together. The darker colors emphasize that Silver Wrapper is
full of the unexpected, and still an "underground" movement.
The home page presents information on upcoming and archived shows as
well as content updates. This redesign placed this type of information
directly on the home page, and gives return visitors a quick overview
on what is happening. The rest of the site encourages browsing through
pull-down menus of events and archives, dynamic photo galleries and
more.
