| FX Trades System
Completed: April 2000
Currenex wanted to port the FXTrades currency exchange package from
a terminal based client application to a web-based application, thereby
increasing accessibility and usability of their product. With more than
20 major, worldwide banks participating in Currenex FXtrades multi-bank
foreign exchange service, clients need to gain immediate access to banks'
quotes through a competitive auction environment that enhanced FX price
discovery and significantly increased dealing and settlement efficiency.
LukeW solution:
The pervading interface element in this web-based application makes
use of small multiples. Each trade sequence that the bank user (the
bank user is the one receiving requests, the customer is sending them)
must contend with is represented as a small window on the left of the
user's display area. Since each trade request contains lots of information,
only the most relevant data is displayed in these small multiples. The
color bars at the top of each request give a quick macro indication
of the status of the quote and the timer bars provide micro information
(exact time left to full a request). When a user rolls over a small
window, it brings the full trade information to the foreground. The
bottom portion of the interface consists of supplementary and adaptive
information for the bank user (market information, active customers,
and a daily log of trades).
The design of this project was a joint effort with Colleen Bushell.
